From Joan Rivers and Oprah to Showtime and HBO, Poppy Champlin has without a doubt risen to the top. She is an internationally acclaimed comic, comedy writer and producer. She spent one season writing for “Show Me The Funny” on Fox which earned her Writers Guild health insurance. She was crowned American’s Funniest Real Woman on the Joan Rivers show. As a stand-up she worked the comedy circuit including opening for Bill Maher, Ray Romano, Dennis Leary and Rosie O’Donnel. Her observational style is often autobiographical encompassing subjects about her East Coast upbringing, coming out, relationships and recovery. Headlining her own Queer Queens of Qomedy shows has always been the objective of Champlin and now it is happening.
The next Queen of Qomedy is Karen Williams. She has been leading the charge in the lesbian community for years. With multiple trips to Michigan Women’s Fest, Karen has her own LOGO comedy special called “ I need a snack.” She is a mother and a grandmother and now she is focusing on “Healing with Humor” at her HaHa Institute in OH. A regular on Olivia cruises and in P-town Karen is a pro.
The third queen in this silly trilogy is Columbus’s own Brooke Cartus. Brooke has worked with such comics as Paula Poundstone, Fortune Feimster and Jen Kober. As an activist she has hosted benefits for HRC and Planned Parenthood. Her Blog: “Size ‘L’ for Lady” has been featured on Huff Post- Gay Voices. Her new album “I have Straight Friends” is number one on itunes. Poppy is thrilled to announce that Cincinnati Pride is helping to sponsor the Queens show and will receive some proceeds from it.
